Thank you for your interest in substituting in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Substitutes are vital members of our professional team and offer an important contribution to the educational program in the classroom. According to the Substitute Teaching Institute at Utah State University, research shows that substitute teachers will teach over one full year of a child's K-12 education by the time he/she graduates from high school. Because instruction must continue, regardless of the regular teacher's absence, the services of dependable and well-prepared substitutes are essential.
NEW FOR 2010-11: All substitute applicants for the Lee's Summit School District will be required to have a local phone number.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) now requires all substitutes to apply for their own substitute certificates through the DESE website: http://www.dese.mo.gov You would need to apply for a substitute certificate only if you do not hold a Missouri Teaching Certificate. The new substitute certificate application system will be available on July 15, 2010. Please review our substitute application procedures and requirements below.

The Lee's Summit R-7 School District uses an automated Substitute Employee Management System to assign substitutes. Staff members enter absences into the system, which create job orders or assignment requests for each absence. The system processes the jobs through a computerized database and, at defined calling times, calls the substitutes according to their profile to fill the assignments. As a substitute, you must be registered with the system and trained how to use the system for your benefit.
