Federal 218 Task Force releases report on
Social Security ruling and Missouri school districts
R-7, other districts and organizations worked to change
Social Security Administration's reversal of long-standing position

The Federal Section 218 Task Force for Missouri School Districts released a report during April to help resolve concerns raised by the Social Security Administration's fall 2008 ruling that some public school retirement members are no longer exempt from paying into Social Security. The task force resulted from an inquiry last fall from a Missouri Congressional Delegation. The group included representatives from Social Security, the IRS, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Public School Retirement System.

Information about the task force report is available in an April 14 message from Dr. David McGehee, R-7 superintendent, at W:\pdf\Retirement\McGeheeStaffMessage4-14-09.pdf. This message also includes a link to the complete task force report. R-7 officials will continue to work with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on this issue.
