Lee's Summit Nutrition Services was awarded the
District of the Year Award in Nutrition for 2009. We strive to
continuously provide healthy and nutritious meals that appeal to our
students. We meet and exceed many categories within the
Missouri Eat Smart Guidelines. In the nutrition category we
meet the standards for the US Healthy Challenge.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
and we encourage our students to eat daily. Currently,
Pleasant Lea Elementary and Summit Lakes Middle Schools are taking
part in breakfast grant programs awarded through the Midwest Dairy
Council. At PLE hot breakfasts are offered daily along with
Bag a Breakfast for the later arriving students to take to class so
they don't miss out on breakfast. Breakfast consumption is up
10% with the inclusion of this service. SLMS is now offering
hot breakfast, a first for the building. Students are allowed
in the buildings earlier to be able to take advantage of the
breakfast. Breakfast participation has doubled.
Breakfast is offered daily in all our buildings because it is the
most important meal of the day and impacts our students performance,
behavior, attendance and attention spans. There have been many
studies that prove this, so please encourage your students to eat
breakfast at school!!
